Samsung announces the next-gen TVs - LED

Samsung has announced that the next generation of TVs are here. The Samsung Series 7 LED TVs promise clearer images, much thinner screens and more energy-efficiency and better green credentials.

Its perhaps these latter two that make the new range so appealing. Like Apple, Samsung as made its screens mercury-free and as they use LEDs, they consume 40% less energy than current models. In stand-by mode they apparently use less 0.1W! As a result, they have been awarded the Eco Label mark of approval.

Of course, as a new product these new TVs will be expensive but as time goes by and as new competitors enter the market, prices should fall substantially.

Rumour mill in full swing again regarding Apple Tablet Mac

Image via CrunchBase
BusinessWeek is claiming that Verizon has been in prolonged negotiations with Apple over not only a new iPhone but also a tablet-like device that would offer HD Video and Wi-Fi. This is something that the rumour site AppleInsider reported over a year ago but which has, until now, been regarded by many as just a figment of many people's overactive imaginations.

Apparently, it will have a screen larger than the Amazon Kindle but be smaller in size as a whole. The new thing here is the allied rumour that Apple has placed a large order for 10" touchscreens from Taiwan. Maybe, just maybe, we are going to see our dreams realised of an Apple product that fits between an iPhone and a Mac Book?

Panasonic Digital Camera Lumix G Series Receives 2009 TIPA Award for Best Design Innovation in Europe

2009 TIPA Award for Best Design Innovation in EuropePanasonic is pleased to announce that the digital still camera Lumix G Series receives prestigious TIPA (Technical Image Press Association) Award for the Best Design Innovation in Europe 2009.

TIPA (Technical Image Press Association) is an independent association of photo and imaging expert editors, representing 12 countries across Europe. The eminent TIPA Award is presented honouring the product for its superiority in quality, performance and value to distinguish the best in each classified category.

Digital Camera Lumix G Series for Best Design Innovation in Europe 2009
Panasonic Lumix G Series is an exciting new digital interchangeable lens camera system that is based on the new Micro Four Thirds System Standard. Its concept is entirely new, taking even greater advantage of the compactness and light weight which is made possible by an innovative mirror-less structure. Especially for people who have never before used an interchangeable lens camera, and for those who have tried one but didn't find it comfortable, the Lumix G Series can open the door to a world of fun, beauty and unlimited creative possibilities.

    Panasonic Lumix G-Series
TIPA official comment is as follows. “The Panasonic Lumix G Series cameras are the first cameras based on the Micro Four Thirds system, and the worlds smallest and lightest digital interchangeable lens camera system. The Lumix G1 and GH1 eliminate the internal mirror structure that defines digital single-lens reflex (DSLR) cameras, thus reducing the size and weight by nearly half.

As I have featured both cameras in the Lumix G range already in a couple of posts, I leave you with a comparison of their features.

A New Micro Four Thirds Digital Interchangeable Lens

Panasonic announce the LUMIX G VARIO 7-14mm/F4.0 ASPH. featuring Ultra Wide Angle in Compact Size.

Panasonic has unveiled a new interchangeable ultra wide-angle zoom lens called the LUMIX G VARIO 7-14mm/F4.0 ASPH. In spite of its impressive wide-angle zoom range of 7-14mm (35mm camera equivalent; 14-28mm), the new lens is surprisinglycompact and lightweight for casual on-the-go use.
LUMIX G VARIO 7-14mm/F4.0 ASPH lens

Taking advantage of its wide, 114-degree angle of view, users can easily fit subjects into the frame even when shooting indoors where the distance is limited. The world looks extraordinary when viewed through the new lens, allowing photos and movies to be recorded with a uniquely rich perspective.

This high-performance lens system achieves outstanding compactness by combining 16 lens elements in 12 groups, including two aspherical lenses and four ED lenses. Image resolution is high from corner-to-corner even at the wide-angle setting. It also features F4.0 brightness over the entire zoom range thanks to its large-diameter glass moulded lens elements.

When mounted on the DMC-GH1 Lumix G Micro System Camera, the new lens allows use of the advanced contrast AF system, which includes a Face Recognition function, for more convenient, more enjoyable shooting. Seven blades give the aperture a rounded shape that produces an
attractively smooth effect in out-of-focus areas when shooting at larger aperture settings. The LUMIX G VARIO 7-14mm/F4.0 ASPH lens also features a highly reliable metal mount, and uses multi-coated lens elements that minimize ghosts and flare to further enhance its optical performance. The optimally designed lens hood enables use even under strong sunlight.
